It depends on the vibe you want! The Kona side offers sunny, classic beach scenes with white sand and lava rocks—perfect for golden sunsets. The Hilo side is lush, tropical, and dramatic, with rainforests, waterfalls, and a moodier feel. We can help you decide which side best fits your vision during the planning process.
Yes, professional photography sessions within Hawaii Volcanoes National Park require a special use permit. This is a process we are familiar with and can guide you through. It's crucial to plan ahead, as the permit application process has specific requirements and timelines. We will ensure all necessary permissions are secured for your session.
To stand out against the dark sand, we recommend wearing lighter, brighter colors. Whites, light blues, corals, and yellows all look stunning against the black sand of Punaluʻu. Avoid very dark colors like black or navy, as you may blend into the background. Light, flowing fabrics also catch the ocean breeze beautifully.
The Big Island is known for its microclimates, and a passing shower is always possible. We constantly monitor the weather ahead of your session. If persistent, heavy rain is forecasted, we will connect with you to find the best solution, which may include rescheduling or moving to a different location on the island with a better forecast.
You will receive the full edited gallery within 5-7 business days. Once you receive the gallery with the photos the photographer has selected and edited, you can either choose the amount inside the package you originally chose, or buy additional images or buy the full gallery the photographer has edited for you. We do not however offer to sell any RAW format images nor all the images captured during the session.

2 hour session: 20 people max
If plans change and more people than the original booking show up at the session, each additional person above the package limit will be charged $60, but package length and photo quantity will remain the same as when originally booked.
